Will septoplasty change the shape of my nose?
No. Septoplasty corrects the internal partition and does not alter the external appearance of the nose. Changing the external shape is a different operation, rhinoplasty, which is a separate decision and a separate discussion.
Is there any external cut or visible scar?
No. The entire procedure is performed through the nostrils, so there is no external incision and nothing visible afterwards.
How long is the recovery after septoplasty?
Same-day discharge is usual. Expect nasal congestion and crusting during the first couple of weeks as the inside heals — the nose often feels more blocked before it feels open, which is normal and temporary. Most people return to desk work within a few days and see the full benefit over a few weeks.
Will I need nasal packing after the surgery?
In most cases no. Modern technique avoids traditional packing, which removes the part of the recovery people find most unpleasant. If packing is needed in your particular case, this is explained beforehand.
Can a deviated septum cause snoring and sinus problems?
Yes. A blocked nasal airway commonly contributes to snoring, mouth breathing and disturbed sleep, and it can impair sinus drainage, which leads to repeated sinus infections. That is exactly why the airway is assessed when someone presents with recurrent sinusitis or snoring.
