When Tonsils or Adenoids Need Attention
One sore throat is nothing. A pattern is what matters — and in children the signs often show up at night rather than in the throat.

- Fever and painful swallowing with each episode
- White spots or patches on the tonsils
- Repeated courses of antibiotics each year
Adenoid Signs in Children

- Restless sleep, or gasping pauses at night
- Nasal-sounding voice, blocked nose
- Poor appetite, tiredness or falling school focus
Needs Prompt Review

- Voice change with a lump in the neck
- One tonsil clearly larger than the other

Tonsils & Adenoids in Uttam Nagar — FAQs
What does tonsillitis treatment cost in Uttam Nagar?
The ENT consultation is ₹500, which covers the examination and a written treatment plan. If a foreign body has to be removed from the nose or throat, that is ₹2000. Surgery is quoted separately and in full before anything is scheduled. Follow-up after 3 days is chargeable.
Does my child definitely need a tonsil operation?
Usually not. Surgery is considered only when throat infections are frequent and disruptive across a year or more, when there is obstructed breathing during sleep, or when there is a persistent structural problem. Many children referred for surgery improve once their episodes are treated properly or an underlying allergy is addressed.
What are adenoids and why can't I see them?
Adenoids sit high up behind the nose, above the roof of the mouth, so they cannot be seen by looking into the throat. Enlarged adenoids are a very common cause of snoring, mouth breathing and a blocked nose in children, and they are assessed by examining the nasal airway.
Is tonsil surgery painful for a child?
There is throat discomfort for several days afterwards, which is managed with medication. Coblator-assisted technique, where suitable, causes less tissue damage than older methods and generally means less pain and faster recovery. We explain the full recovery picture before you decide.
Will removing tonsils weaken my child's immunity?
This is the most common worry parents have. Tonsils are part of the immune system, but they are one small part of a large network, and removal in a child who genuinely needs it has not been shown to leave them more prone to general illness. In children with frequent infections, removal usually means fewer sick days overall.
Can adults have tonsil problems too?
Yes. Adults get recurrent tonsillitis, chronic sore throat, tonsil stones and, less commonly, one-sided tonsil enlargement which needs proper examination. Adult tonsillectomy has a longer recovery than in children, which is factored into the decision.
